Tell me about Equine Disciplines

d1 Show jumping is practised at all levels, from Novice to International. No specific breed is specified but horses are quite often 3/4 or 1/2 breeds with thoroughbred Hanoverian, Traekener, Warmblood Irish Draft and possibly Shire involved in their bloodlines. Sometimes thoroughbreds compete.

Only a few stallions compete. Horses progress from grade C to grade B to grade A and on to Grand Prix level. Show jumping horses usually reach their peak between the age of 9 and 16. Show jumpers usually deal in horses, buying from Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria or Ireland.

The horses are highly priced and prized mainly because the prize money has increased over the years with corporate companies sponsoring major competitions.

There is a great deal of serious sponsorship in show jumping.

d2 Combine the disciplines of Dressage, Cross Country, and Show jumping over a three day event. Smaller events can be crammed into one day.

The Dressage section has the disciplined movement of horses using specific steps turns etc. The Cross Country section is over a course of 3 to 4 miles, negotiating different jumps of walls, logs and water jumps to test the ability of horse and rider.

Show jumping is the last phase. Badminton, Burleigh and Blenheim are most famous and prestigious events in the UK.

Horses are usually 16hh or taller and reach their peak between 8 and 16 years old.

d3 As mentioned above Dressage involves the disciplined movement of horses using specific steps turns etc. It is performed in an arena, can be performed to music, with the rider smartly dressed. Goodwood is the Mecca of dressage. Horses tend to be 16hh or taller and compete up to the age of 20.

d4 The sport for thoroughbreds only, traced back to three original stallions, which were imported from the Middle East around three hundred years ago. All foals must be registered on a passport at birth. The age of all thoroughbreds is taken from the 1st Jan of their birth year for racing purposes.

Flat Racing is associated with the summer and is a more wealthy form of racing with higher prize money and more expensive horses than The National Hunt Races. Races range from 5 furlongs (8 to a mile) to up to two and a half miles with no obstacles. The minimum weight carried is usually 7 stone with the max being 10 stone.

Horses are usually 15hh to 17hh. National Hunt Racing is associated with winter and a poor relation to flat racing in terms of prize money etc. Mainly geldings (castrated males) and mares compete. Hurdle races are run from two to three and a half miles and the horses jump soft barriers that are easily brushed over. Chases are run over much stiffer obstacles, horses tend to start over hurdles then progress to chases. The main National Hunt meetings are Cheltenham Gold Cup and Aintree Grand National.

Point to Point Racing starts in February and is limited to horses that have seen hunting several times with a recognised local hunt. They are less professional and are run over courses that are basically fields with a few running rails. Horses can progress to hunter classes for which races are held at recognised race courses.

d5 This is where future champions are born. Each stallion covers approx 45+ mares per year at a fee agreed before the covering season starts. The mares usually travel to the yard where the stallion is kept and remain until they are found to be in foal when tested. Large operations would have their own stallions to cover their own mares. Only exceptional racehorses are kept as stallions.

d6 A sport played on a lawn with four chukka players per side. Each player uses up to four ponies per game. It is a very expensive game enjoyed by the rich and famous. Wealthy individuals sponsor their own teams for the season including hiring players from South America, Mexico and Argentina. Polo ponies tend to be quite small.

How often does the Feeder have to be filled up?

The advertised C10 SiMPLEFEEDER is for dry feed / pellets/ cubes and has a capacity of approximately 22 Kg, depending on the feed consistency. This is normally about 3 days feed, though this would depend on your individualised feeding schedule. The C30 SiMPLEFEEDER capacity is 18 Kg to accomodate a slide at a greater pitch for moist feed.

Are the Feeders powered by the mains?

The Feeder is powered from the mains with a powerpack reaching up to 5 meters. There is a transformer built in which reduces the voltage from 240v down to 12v, to ensure the horse’s safety. However SiMPLEFEEDER also provides battery and solar options for an additional cost.

Is it difficult to install?

It is easy to install, just follow the simple instructions provided.

SiMPLEFEEDER is easy to install on the outside bars of a stable with all items provided. Just attach by screwing in 4 bolts to retain it, set timer and plug in.

For solid or cavity block stables, you just cut an opening in the solid or cavity blocks for the feed to slide down the stainless steel or plastic chutes down to the horse trough. Most professionals have solid block studs and they are more than willing to make the required opening. See the installation contents and how easy it is to bar-mount install a SiMPLEFEEDER in 15 minutes.

What is the capacity of a battery

We recommend a 40AH battery (car battery). This will give a life of between 1.5-2 years . Multiple unit can be connected to one battery but this will reduce the life proportionally

Smaller batteries ( like 20AH ) can also be used but this will give a shorter life.

Do you need a timer for every Feeder?

Each SiMPLEFEEDER has a specific timer and therefore only runs a single feeder.

How can I replace the timer?

  • Using a blunt knife (like a butter knife) push it between the black plastic timer surround and the white plastic box (the over label)
  • Prizing it from the top or the left side it should easily pop out
  • There are 4 push is connections in the back of the timer (1-4)
  • Before you pull them out, photograph them, so you do not mix them up
  • The new timer can just be plugged in and pushed back into place
  • You will need to reset and reprogram

Is there any type of feed that the SiMPLEFEEDER does not dispense?

Research has shown us that the inconsistency of the home made feed which included chaff in Australian stud farms is not conducive to allow the SiMPLEFEEDER to dispense the feed with the accuracy that we would recommend. Other research has confirmed that the homemade feed in the Ocala stud farms in Florida is conducive to allow the SiMPLEFEEDER to dispense the feed with the accuracy that we would recommend. View a list of a few feed companies which are compatible with the SIMPLEFEEDER.

Is the SiMPLEFEEDER durable?

In our 4 years we have had no complaints on the Feeders durability when used in either internal & external stables but this is to be expected as the SiMPLEFEEDER shell is made from high density ABS making it extremely durable and impact resistant.

Which SiMPLEFEEDER is the best seller to date?

The C10 SiMPLEFEEDER is by far the best seller as the majority of stud owners provide their horse with a low fat food content. The C30 SiMPLEFEEDER is catching up fast as the extra large studs tend to use, heavy fatty feed. The C30H & C10 2X are bespoke automatic feeders requested by clients for their particular requirements.

Is there a different SiMPLEFEEDER for different types of feed?

Research has shown us that the 5 versions of SiMPLEFEEDERs, cover all spectrum of processed feed produced by the Equine Feed companies. The SiMPLEFEEDER’s have not been designed for Equine Feed with chaff included. You can see our feeder range here.

Who uses the SIMPLEFEEDER?

We have found that the SiMPLEFEEDER is used equally by both individual horse owners and large training yards.

How much can I feed at any one time?

The horse / pony’s stomach is very small and is designed for small regular meals. As a guide a horse should have no more than 2kg of grain based feed eg cubes / mixes at any one time and a pony 1kg at any one time.

Recommended C30H Setup Procedure

  • Ensure it is plugged in and that the timer display is on
  • If the timer display is not “on” then please press the small reset button to get it going
  • Set the time to the current time
  • Set the start time to 1 hour before your feed and 30 minutes after (1.5-hour running time)
  • Example if you want to feed at 06:00 – set the start time to 05:00 and the finish time to 06:30

Things to watch out for

  • Ensure you have the heaters coming on for every feed not just the colder times of day
  • Ensure it is coming on 7 days a week (7 triangles)

What does the C in the product name mean?

We are currently on the third version of the FEEDER Range. The initial feeder was individually made in Ireland and placed in the market to gauge acceptance and get an understanding of the markets needs. The second version was introduced in June 2011. The “C” Versions were developed by Atlas Global Metal Solution Limited, who have spent four years developing it.
